Sketch #81

Good morning sketchies,

We have a brand new challenge for you today -

A layout sketch!

Our current challenges are usually based around a card sketch (but can be used for either), so I thought I would add in a sketch just for the scrapers out there. We will continue to have our 2 card sketches (1st and 15th of the month) and we will now also have the layout sketch on the 16th. This new challenge will run for a month and end on the 15th of the following month (prior to the new challenge starting). Your entry into the layout challenge will gain you entries into the monthly prize draw.

So without further adieu here is the sketch and inspiration from the wonderful design team.

Inspiration Post: "Emboss Resist Technique"!!

Hey Everyone!! This is Elina with an inspiration post for you all!! I decided to do my post on a technique I've been doing recently called "Emboss Resist". It's basically stamping onto white cardstock (or any color for that matter) using VersaMark ink. You then add your white embossing powder (for this project I used Antique Ivory from Stampin Up), heat set it and add another layer of color on top. Where ever you embossed, it resists the color and stays white. It' a cool technique that you can use for creating a nice background or sentiment to your project.
Here is a list of the things I used and a step by step photo representation of the process:

-VersaMark ink pad
-Embossing powder
-Heat tool
-Stamps ( I used a Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Set)
-Stamp Block or Press
-white cardstock

To start off, I arranged my stamps on my stamp press.

Then stamped onto the white cardstock using VersaMark ink.

Added the ivory embossing powder to cover the entire panel.

Heat set it with my heat tool.

I added Creamy Caramel and Close to Cocoa inks from Stampin Up to add color to the panel.

Love how the ivory embossing powder just pops off this panel.

Now you can use this embossed piece to decorate the front of a card or on a layout.

I chose to do a card and here's the pic for that:

I hope you enjoyed this post and got inspired to try this technique for yourself!!

Inspiration post : Draw and cut with a circular cutter

Hi everyone !

Valerie here today to show you something you can do with a circular cutter. I use the Martha Stewart cutter often, and I got the idea to draw circle with it using gel pen. Here is how in this short video :

Instead of cutting the drawed circle, you can just leave it on your page and add several others for exemple.
I did use a gel pen to let the circular cutter clean. If you use a marker, it will stain it, and that will not be easy to clean...

Have fun with this trick, and see you soon !

Inspiration post for 9 February 2014

It is my turn to post an inspirational project for Feeling Sketchy

I have used card sketch No 79 and used a square photo instead of a round one.

I have printed out ballet digi paper and typed Title on the computer.  Added washi tape and photo plus ballet slippers.

I have just done a quick simple layout for inspiration for those just starting out.
My grand daughter Emily's dance school had Alice in Wonderland for the theme for the dance concert over two days in  November 2013.  Emily's ballet class were the playing cards.

Just a hint if you have daughters doing ballet don't buy point shoes over the internet.  They need to be fitted properly.  Emily's pink point shoes were fitted by the ballet shop but the black ones she needed for the concert were bought over the internet.  They became soft after one wear and Emily hurt her foot but kept on dancing.

Have a good week.
Best wishes

Inspiration Post February 5th

Hi, it's Astrid here and for todays Inspiration Post I want to share with you how to make and easy flower with  paper and a punch. Because I never use lot's of flowers on my pages, I still don't like it with my boys' photo's, so therefore I use this kind of flowers a little more. I hope you will enjoy my short tutorial.

So first get some double sided paper and a circle punch (mine is 3 cm or 1.2 inches)
Then punch five circles
fold them half

then fold them another time, just on the upperside (sorry for my english, I hope you understand what I mean)

Then punch another circle and glue the five pieces around it.

Then your flower have to look like this ;

Add some bling or a button in the middle as finishing touch.

Thank you so much for looking and I hope I gave you some inspiration !
